Involve students in number counting to one hundred on the 100th day of school with engaging math activities.

Observe the 100th day of school with kids counting to 100. Kindergarten and primary students will enjoy participating in math counting activities.

Kindergarten Ideas

Students draw 10 faces in a row on a strip of paper. Teacher will display 10 strips of paper to represent 100 faces. She may choose to have some students draw 10 happy faces and some 10 crazy faces. Teacher will ask students how she should group the faces to display 100 faces on each piece of poster board. Each poster will represent 100 items. After the display is complete students can count by 10's to 100.

Teacher draws a 100 line number chart. Each student in the class is given 5 fruit loops to glue above the numbers. As the students are gluing, it is best to someone assist with the activity. After the fruit loops are glued, students can count to 100 as a class, in small groups, or on their own.

Teacher puts the students into small groups. Each group will glue 100 shapes to a piece of paper in a creative manner. Each group can be one shape or a combination of shapes totaling one hundred.

Students write and spell the number one hundred. These can be used as a title for the hundred displays in the classroom.

Grade 1 Graphing Ideas

Students graph 100 items with the assistance of the teacher. Teacher may decide for the students to graph 100 dinosaurs or books. He may drop 100 pipe cleaners of various colours and they must graph. After the graph, teacher and students will create a number sentence.

Students make a 100 hat and place 100 stickers on the hat in groups of 10.

Students count by 1, 2, 5, or 10 into a tape recorder and may listen to themselves or friends as they count to 100.

Grade 2 Drawing 100 Ideas

Students trace their feet or the teacher photocopies a standard foot. Total number of foot prints is one hundred. Teacher and students will write the number from 1-100 on the footprints. As a class, starting at the classroom door count 100 steps and paste the foot prints to the floor.

Students draw 100 items with a common theme such as gum or Lego pieces and display them on a piece of chart paper. As well, students can glue one hundred items to the chart display.

Teacher gives a pair of students a dice and a hundred chart to play the game First to One Hundred. Students roll the dice and move a counter piece by that number on the chart. Students continue to play until one of them reaches 100 with an exact roll. As student play the game they must write down their rolls. Later the teacher will have them write a number sentence with their rolls.

Grade 3 Math Equation Ideas

Students write a mathematical addition equation of three numbers which equals 100 (99+1=100 or 50+50=100).

Students write a math equation using addition and subtraction totaling 100 (70+40-10=100).

Students create a math problem and the answer must equal 100. Students write the problem and solve the equation. Students can write the problem on one side of an index card and the solution on the other side.

Students count by 1, 2, 5, and 10’s and illustrate the numbers. Students can work in groups for this math activity.

Kindergarten and primary students will enjoy counting to one hundred with fun and engaging math activities. Celebrate the 100th day of school with your class in math and gym class.
