Kindergarten Activities on the Letter UTeaching Letters to Toddlers, Preschoolers, and Kindergarteners
This letter U lesson plan includes crafts, games, and hands-on activities perfect for teaching the alphabet to pre k and kindergarten students.
It can be difficult to keep the attention of young students during an alphabet lesson. A broad array of letter U activities like these help kids to focus and learn still while having fun. Alphabet Crafts for Children: Umbrella CraftUmbrella is a great letter U word that lends itself to a lot of unique crafts and letter U activities. Kids can create their own umbrella scene on a standard piece of paper. Cut or fold cupcake cups in half to use as rounded umbrella tops, draw in umbrella handles, and glue small pom poms, M&Ms, or beads in the sky for rain. This is really a versatile letter U craft that can be adapted to fit whatever materials are in the classroom. Uniform Games on the letter UUniform begins with the letter U. People in many different professions wear uniforms to work. Can the students name some? At the end of the discussion, name a uniformed worker and display pictures of different clothing items. Let the students decide which item is the "silly item" that isn't part of that person's uniform. Examples are:
Playing this uniform game or any variation of it is a great way to lighten up kindergarten or preschool lesson plans while still focusing on the letter U. Teaching the Letter U with Upside Down AnimalsUpside down is a fun letter U word. If space allows, roll out some mats and let kids try standing on their heads (with or without adult help.) Some animals spend a lot of their lives hanging upside down, such as bats and sloths. Share what kids know about each of the nocturnal animals, and compare and contrast their attributes. Pretend to be sloths by eating, walking, and talk in slow motion, or practice dancing and flittering around like bats to "The Batty Bat" song [by Sesame Street, Silly Songs. Sony Wonder: 1996.] U is for UpAnywhere on earth, the sky is what people see when they look up. Kids can decorate a piece of paper with clouds and them use a letter U stamp to mark "U"s in the sky. As an alternate activity, they can glue elbow macaroni noodles in the sky to look like tiny letter "U"s. Any lesson plan on the letter U intended for toddlers, pre-k, or kindergarten learners needs to be jam-packed with exciting (but relevant) crafts and physical activities like these in order to be successful.
