Teaching the Letter M to Kindergarten by Playing Store
Usually, even toddlers can identify money. Most kids are familiar with the concept that money can be traded for goods or services. Teach that "money"begings with the letter M and reinforce this concept by playing store together with play money and cash registers. Encourage kids to count coins and give change to their customers. Play other money games to teach the difference between different kinds of coins and bills.
Letter M Lesson Plans with Map Reading
Map reading skills are incredibly valuable, and do not come without practice. Make a map of the classroom or the neighborhood, and have kids get to certain locations using the map as a guide. Younger children will be most interested in a "treasure map" that helps them find a small prizes like stickers or a notebook to keep.
Alphabet Games for Kindergarten with Food Coloring
Mix begins with the letter M. Toddlers and preschoolers can mix water in a large container with a variety of different kitchen implements like whisks, spatulas, and potato mashers. Kindergartners in smocks to protect their clothing can mix water tainted with food coloring together to see what new colors they can make.
Preschool Alphabet Craft and Song: M is for Milk
Kids drink milk every day but often have little clue where it actually comes from. Show pictures of cows (or even better, visit a farm to see a real cow) and point out the udder. Use empty single-serve milk cartons to make a cow craft:
- Cut off one side of the milk carton and paint the remaining sides white or cover with white paper.
- Kids paint or draw black spots on the carton and four craft popsicle sticks.
- Kids paint or draw a face on the bottom of the milk carton.
- Glue the craft sticks to the inside of the carton, extending out.
- When the glue dries, stand the carton on its sticks to look like a cow.

Muffin Tin Crayons and Letter M Handwriting Practice
Collect those tiny broken crayon pieces, remove the wrappers, and get ready to teach about the letter M. M is for "muffin tin." Display a mini muffin tin and explain that it's usually used to make muffins and cupcakes. But today the class is going to use them to make crayons!
Spray cups with vegetable spray, fill each with broken crayons, and put in the oven at 275 degrees for 7-8 minutes. While the crayons are melting and cooling, explain that "melt" also starts with the letter M. Talk about why and how things melt.
When the crayons are cool, use them to decorate letter M worksheets or practice writing the letter M and m.
Teaching letter M to kindergarten and below can be a challenge. Short attention spans require fun and exciting new activities. So round out any alphabet lesson plan with these letter M activities, games, and crafts.
